U2 tribute band brought in Magnificent crowds
U2’s tribute band, aptly named U2-2, brought in the crowds to Meadowhall Shopping Centre yesterday, in the build up to the legendary band’s sell-out gig at Don Valley Stadium: the penultimate night of the European 360 degree tour.
Fans flocked to Meadowhall to hear the tribute band, billed on the recent Blackberry 360 nationwide tour. The tribute band, headed by local lads Frank and Luke wowed the crowd with U2’s international acclaimed hits including Beautiful Day; I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and With or Without You.
Kate Allatt, Business Development Manager at Out of Town Leisure Group Ltd , which owns The Lounge Restaurant, Mamma Amalfi & The French Café restaurants in Meadowhall commented: “We served 25% more customers yesterday as U2 pre-concert goers and fans visited Meadowhall to enjoy a bite to eat, while enjoying the music and listening to the next best thing! Meadowhall restaurant favourites including Zizzi, Pizza Express and Mamma Amalfi offered prime seats for watching U2-2, and it was great to be part of the action.”
Richard Pinfold, Head of Marketing at Meadowhall, said: “U2 was a hit at Meadowhall! We were delighted to welcome U2 fans from across the globe to the Centre. The global rock stars’ tribute band, U2-2, ensured shoppers enjoyed the ultimate U2 retail day ahead of the concert at Don Valley last night.

"Even better than the real thing? Maybe not, but they were pretty good, and the popularity of this tribute act at Meadowhal this morning made one thing clear; U2 fever has well and truly come to town." "So for people like me who aren't lucky enough to have a ticket (to the 360 degree tour), at least I've still got a taste of what's on stage tonight."

Even better than the real thing
OMG!!!!!! I can't believe what's happened this afternoon!!!!
I went to meet my friend from Nottingham at Meadowhall shopping centre and we met in this cafe at the the food court called the Oasis. There was a U2 tribute band playing and we were sat about 30 feet away. I could see the people gathered round watching the band but couldn't see the band themselves because they were behind a wall. They were really good and just sounded like the real thing. They did all the hits and played for about an hour and a quarter.
As I left Meadowhall and got on the tram I noticed that the traffic was really bad and mentioned it to the girl sat next to me. She said 'Oh yeah it's 'cos U2 are playing at the Don Valley Stadium tonight! OMG! It suddenly dawned on me and I asked her if it really was U2 playing in the Oasis this afternoon. She told me it was!!!
I can't believe I was sat about 30 feet away all afternoon and I never bothered to look around the wall!!!!
Well you never in a million years expect U2 to play a gig at your local out of town shopping centre do you!!!

SHOPPERS got in the mood for Sheffield's biggest gig of recent times with a performance from local tribute band U2-2 at Meadowhall.
Hours before the main event, crowds gathered at the shopping centre's Oasis food court for the set, which included hits such as Follow, Beautiful Day, All the Streets, No Line, One Tree, and With or Without You. The Sheffield tribute band were originally formed in 1993 under the name The Original Achtung Baby, and have sold out shows across the globe claiming to be the "greatest tribute to U2 anywhere in the world. Drummer Andy Bott said: "We thoroughly enjoyed playing Meadowhall - the audience were terrific "They knew all the words and behaved like they were in Don Valley. "Awesome."The group finished the day on a high - heading off to the stadium to see the real thing in action.
It was a pleasure working for you guys and we all really enjoyed your show. We had so much positive feedback from both colleagues and members of the public. Everybody loved your show and quite a few people thought that you were the real Edge! Evangelos Vanezis,
Gary Bolton - 'Awesome gig in Bolton on Saturday night. Absolutely nailed all the music, some songs I've not heard for years "Out of Control" was brilliant to hear live. Definitely will be going to see them again.'
Katie Pope,'Great gig guys...really enjoyed it and you did the song we walked out to at our wedding - Beautiful Day .... brilliant! :-)
O2 Glasgow
Mark Kerr,'Great gig guys!'
Duncan Macintosh,'It was brilliant bud we all really enjoyed it.I especially enjoyed the Unforgettable fire track. Well done to you and the rest of the band for playing for so long. Great night and will look forward to the next one'.
Thanks so much for the concert you put on in crewe at the box, I have been to U2 on many occasions through out thier career and you are more than just a tribute to the Irish lads, I would even go as far to say you performed better than U2 did at Glastonbury. Ill be back to see you for sure very soon. Jimmy
I have seen them live in a sell out 500 seater and had them before 2 yrs ago at my venue 100 seater sell out , the gig on saturday sold out (100) in 4 weeks 12 months in advance !!!!, Luke is a real joy to work with , the band are spot on , I know they will be stunning again. Good choice, I will book them again in 2014/15. Do stay in touch after 10yrs of doing this there are some nightmares out there , not these guys - Michael Pipe / Promoter
I am always a little hesitant when it comes to tribute bands... its not only do they sound like who they are apeing (please don't slaughter my favorite songs) but do they bear some physical or behavioural resemblance. U2-2 did a very good job IMHO they were spookily like U2 but at the same time didn't take themselves too seriously (a trait I like in tribute bands). I didn't know all the songs they played but what I did I thoroughly enjoyed. Infact they have been praised by and clearly have a rapport with U2 themselves - a signed U2 CD was auctioned during the evening. By all acounts this gig was a departure for the band too, as this was heralded as their first attempt at doing an acoustic set. Normally they tour the world and are one of the top, if not the top U2 tribute act. So all-in-all a great evening out, a good inimate venue and most importantly great music. Watch out for more reviews from artists at this venue. 10/10 - NICKS FRONTIER -- REVIEW ENTSHED
Just want to say thank you for the most realistic U2 tribute I have ever seen in my life, you were "Magnificent" and what a great bunch of people to boot. Till next time and "In the name of love" Peace to you all, Dave and Dawn
Was my birthday yesterday (25/8) and came to see you guys play at the Robin 2 in Wolverhampton. You were brilliant!!! My girlfreind treated me to the tickets for my birthday, loved absolutely every minute of it! You guys really know how to perform a great tribute band. As soon as i got in the car i said to my girlfriend; Can we go and see them again, very soon? She happily agreed so will defoinitely be seeing you guys again soon. John Andrews
Last Saturday brought to an end a fantastic month of racing – as we finished the evening on a high with a stunning performance from U2 tribute act, U2-2. The band, recognised as the definitive U2 tribute act by the Irish rockers themselves, put on a great show to complete the final day of racing at Town Moor ahead of our pinnacle meeting, the St Leger festival. Review from the Star Newspaper

Really enjoyed the gig at Maggie Mays Sunday, you and Simple Minded where the perfect combination for a gig like this. I liked that fact that you guys have perfected the whole feel of U2 without it being cheesy its very natural and gave me a taste of what up close live U2 music sounds and feels like, well done and hope to catch you in action again. Glasgow was defo worth the trip. Tracey Causon

Wow! What a night at the Robin. Even got to shake your hand! Seriously though, thank you ‘all’ so much. Like you I had a tough time losing my dad but U2-2 allow me to remember all the good times. Last night was certainly one of those times. I WAS IN MY OWN LITTLE WORLD. One love one life! You may remember several young adults rockin with an old guy……that was me. Not a good look I know. We ‘The Sheridan’s’ have seen you many times and will continue to ‘stalk’ you when you are playing close to Cannock. The River Rooms was another amazing night. I sometimes wonder Luke, do you (the band) really appreciate how good you are and that you have all been blessed with a gift. Once again many thanks for ‘Bad’ & ‘Out of control’……………we are!!! Happy New Year to U2-2!! Come back soon…….please. Kind regards, John Sheridan and Family
Me and my brother came to see your show in Glasgow on the ferry (19/11/10), we are massive U2 fans and have seen a few tribute acts but the show you put on was by far the best! It didnt feel like a tribute act, it felt like you owned the songs yourselves. We went to see U2 on the 360 tour last year and while it was great, we were quite far back so the show on friday was like a front row seat. The highlight for me was when singing 'with or without you' bono jumped off the stage and walked through the crowd, he got to me and my brother as we stood arms around each others shoulders while chanting the 'ooooh ooooh ohhhh' part, bono put the mic in front of us to sing it!, SUPERB! can't wait until you come back to Glasgow and rock the ferry once again!
Chris Doherty.
Thank you for headlining our most successful Healing Village-fest to date. People are commenting on how good you guys were and that it was an amazing end to a great day!!! Hope you guys enjoyed it to. I certainly had the hairs on the neck moment when i was stood at back of the stage when you did With Or Without You and saw the crowd singing along, awesome!!! Hope you guys keep busy and keep rockin, Cheers Nick.
We really enjoyed gig on Sat night. We were really impressed. I've seen a few U2 tribute bands, but U2-2 are the best I've seen. We were that impressed that we are going to York next month to see yas. Paul Waldby
Awesome night, nearly better than the real thing! - Russ Witterick
Well thanks lads, had a great night...good company and Hell yeah, great music xx' Debb Ellis
Brilliant night lads, already looking forward to November' - Nick Holden
'Cracking gig lads, top tunes played with 'scary likeness!' Have a good tour, see you next time around' - Super13
Awsome band! They make the word 'tribute' seem inadequate, as you forget you're not watching U2 themselves! Brilliant. MsSuzzyy
This letter comes from myself and from the members of the entertainments committee who want to thank the bands for helping us to provide a very very successful event. As I am sure you already know, the feedback from this years festival has been universally good. We just cant get enough pats on the back! The quality, the good vibes and the good attitude from the bands was as important to the festival as the superb performances. The stages, PAs and lighting were way better than ever before. Special mention goes to our young crew, Josh, Rhian and Joe, and to Dave and Alan in the RED hall. But most of all to Dave Homer for running the Cafe Bar almost single handed for 4 days. The numbers, We had over 10,000 people over 4 days, 4,600 on Saturday, We sold a hundred thousand pints of real ale, all the cider, most of the wines and most of the bottled beers! We had more than 500 volunteers who weren't paid, they really are the back bone of the festival. I don't know how many pies we sold, I dare not ask! Bathtubs of mushy peas! While final accounts are not in, we have made lots of money for local good causes. If you have any good photos or video of the event, please let me have them. Or put them on youtube. To conclude, I want to thank you all, most of all the people of South Yorkshire for giving us a truly unique and unforgettable event. We are in your debt. Rudi Event organiser

Many thanks your gig at the Ent Shed was amazing. Congratulations to you all for rising to the unplugged challenge - it was superb. Hope you bass player gets well soon. Luke your talents deserve a pay rise!! It rates as one of the best ever concerts, Many thanks Nick.
First time I've seen this amazing band! I love U2 with a passion and can honestly say U2 2 are the best tribute I've seen, and I've seen them all! The set list was to die for: 11 o Clock Tick Tock, The Fly, Breathe, One Tree Hill, Ultraviolet, I Will Follow, Until The End OTW, MOFO, Running To Stand Still, All I want Is You etc etc and these are just the highlights! Of course all the staples are in the set, One, With or Without You, Where The Streets HNN, Beautiful Day etc. Its a U2 fans dream to see this show! Just a shame it was a small crowd on a cold Thursday in Leeds! They deserve capacity crowds every time. 'Edge' is technically perfect in my view, and the sound is just excellent! A great great show! Cant wait for Altrincham on Feb 18th! The real U2 are in Capetown that night, but believe me this will be as close to the real thing as you can get, and possibly even better?
Kevin Fenton
Incredible job there The Edge! I've followed U2 since '86 but this was the first tribute act I've seen. Awesome! You've got the Edge's moves down pretty well - I know more about how he moves from seeing you than from Mr Evans himself! Sound... Incredibly envious! Larry's drums were incredible. Adam... well, I think that actually was Adam. Bono? Could you get a nicer guy? Many thanks guys. See you back in London Town..
David
I went to see U2-2 at Fairfield Halls, Croydon last night (Thursday, 25th November 2010) with my husband. I was amazed and very impressed with the band's performance. We were sitting in the front row, about 6 feet from the stage and have a great view of the band members. The sound was great, the playing superb and the lead singer not only looked like Bono, but sounded and moved like him too. The whole band gave a fantastic performance and the lead singer came down and moved through the crowd, shaking hands and including us in the songs. Although the venue was small and not filled up, the band gave an overall excellent performance and really seemed to enjoy the crowd. I would definitely recommend this band to all my friends and would go and see them again!
Emma Walton.
I was at the Dickens Bar on Saturday night, i was stood at the front all night with a U2 tshirt on and red hair. I went to see U2 last year at Sheffield for the first time, but i have been a fan ever since i can remember perhaps since i was born in 1969. Let me say thank you for a fantastic night, i have seen numerous tribute bands but you are so in the lead, you looked great, you sounded fantastic, i really enjoyed myself, i often go down on my own to see bands there but i was still buzzing from Saturday night, the hug from the lead singer did help a lot with that though!!! I have visited your website and noted other gigs that i can get to both for the rest of this year and next year, as i will definitely be coming to see you again and again. Keep rocking ..... Bev X.
I saw you guys play at The Stables in Milton Keynes and thought you were amazing! Think would like to see you next in a standing venue, something a bit more traditionally rock but you were absolutely brilliant in what I expect was quite a hard venue to play. Clare Brown
Believe me, this band are Even Better Than The Real Thing! Thanks for an awesome set guys :-) Keith Newman - Chairman
OMG !! You Rocked !!! Great gig tonite.. hope we can see you again sometime !! I will follow....!! Claire Bradley
Thank you so much to the best U2 tribute band concert we have ever seen on 22.5.10 at Malvern Theatre, Worcestershire. My husband and I took our son Paul McNamee (plays guitar in local bands for passion not money!!!!) on his 24th Birthday before he went out to celebrate with his mates - he later said, the concert was the best part of a fantastic birthday celebration. The show was inspirational - We were surprised to see such a small audience turnout but the band gave 150% to this small audience on 22.5.10 and received a standing ovation and the loudest cheers and still left us wanting more. The lead singer really connected with the audience and my son appreciated the tap on his shoulder and handshake... a great example, great experience and Paul picked up his guitar the next day with renewed passion to start looking for his next band to join. Thank you so very much and keep doing what you all do so well. Oh and we will see you again that's for sure. Cheers to all Maria, Vince and Paul McNamee.
Whitley Bay
Hello Lads, We saw you on Saturday night at Whitley Bay playhouse and just wanted to thank you all for a BRILLIANT night. Between Gary and I, we have seen U2 6 times the last being at Wembley, the 360 tour and thought that was the best gig ever so we had reservations about coming to see you…. I have to say, musically you were BRILLIANT, vocally you were BRILLIANT and next time you are in town we will DEFINITELY come and see you again… Thanks again for a great night. Pauline and Gary

Seen the guys at the ferry Glasgow 23/4/11 what a show they put on the guys where on stage for nearly 2 and a half hours the crowd wouldn`t let them go off as for the tracks they played was a mixture of old and new from boy to no line on the horizon. They played red hill mining town something I havn`t even heard u2 even sing I have been to see u2 many times from the barrowlands to amsterdam to hampden and I thought the show these guys put on was first class I would recommend any avid U2 fan to check them out the next time they play here. Lewis Mitchell
Come back soon so I can bring more people to sing along! Seen U2 twice and this was as good as either of those gigs in terms of attention to detail...you just need a massive claw or a giant glittery lemon to arrive in...I'd pay more to see that ;) Can we have a 20th anniversary run through of achtung baby sometime soon? Iain Wheeldon
